What Do We Mean By Computer Science?

One popular misconception is that computer science is simply coding. Another misconception is that computer science is synonymous with digital literacy.  Computer Science is its own subject area, with deep roots in mathematics and engineering. It focuses on both theoretical and applied approaches to the creation of computational processing.

Computer science is broad,  including concepts such as how computing systems work, how data is stored, processed and analyzed, how to develop processes to solve problems computationally, and how computing impacts society.

There is a natural continuum of learning opportunities whereby digital literacy, digital citizenship, and computer science each build upon, strengthen, and complement each other to support students as they move from consumers to producers of technology.
